Course Content

1 Unit - 12 video lessons
Introduction
This course is for people who usually get too excited about creating and eventually end up with a bad design, messed-up ideas. Throughout this course, I will teach you 4 hacks that will help you stay on track and make your ideas a reality without any technical damages. In this course, I will guide you through the whole process from start to finish of illustrating a cute birdie, and I will show the four hacks in action.
04:22
Setup
In this video, I will show you where you can find the resources for downloading and saving the files. You can download all the resources and follow me step-by-step or build your own illustration by taking the steps as guidance. Then I will show you how to create a new file and layer on procreate. I will provide you with 2 brushes which are my personal illustration brushes, and you will learn how to download and import them.
06:34
Inspiration
In this video, we will talk about what we are going to do in this course. You can find some amazing creators and creations on Google to serve as inspiration to you. I will show you how to build a color palette from a colorful bird image. You will also learn how to do the one-minute character design. I will show you an exercise that will help you to create some fun and goofy characters. Always warm up with a scribble. Scribbling always frees up the tension in your hands.
08:27
Composition Thumbnailing
Welcome to the first hack. Actually, it is composition and color thumbnailing, which are two different processes. Still, they are so closely related that I wanted to include them in the same hark, but we will deal with them in different videos. In this video, you will learn about thumbnailing, which is the stage before sketching, composition thumbnailing, which answers what and where questions.
07:18
Color Thumbnailing
This is the second part of the first hack. The color thumbnailing answers the question of what color the element will be. Color thumbnailing is laying down rough colors in more versions from the color palette we have built in order to choose the best possible combination. We are going to create more color versions of the thumbnail.
02:59
Horizontal Flip
In this video, I will sketch and show you the second hack, which is the horizontal flip. For my sketch, I need black color, sketching 6b pencil and circle. We will go into character design and work on the detailed features. Repeat the flip and clean up until you reach a balanced design.
06:33
Painter's Palette
In this video, we will talk about the third hack, the Painter’s Palette. The point of these hacks is to make your painting and illustration workflow easier. You can adjust your color palette to your needs and add colors that you miss from the palette. With painter’s palette, you can just hit the already laid down color of your desire and start painting.
03:33
Value Check
The fourth hack is value check. In this video, you will learn how to create a value check layer before you start illustrating. Create a new layer above everything and follow the step-by-step process that I will show you to get everything in greyscale. To have a harmonious design, everything should not be very dark. It is important to note that your designs must work in greyscale.
01:31
Illustration- Part 1
In this video, you will learn a few tips to start illustrating the birdie. Create a new layer below the sketch, lower the opacity of the set “N” to multiply on the sketching layer, always think in layers, and add a little bit of shading. You can always get shapes right with an eraser if needed.
13:00
Illustration- Part 2
This is part 2 of the three parts of the birdie illustration. In this video, you will learn few more tips in illustrating the birdie. If you have problems with the brush and it’s not really making the movements you want it to make, add streamline to fix the problem. You can always value check to be sure that your design will work in greyscale.
06:37
Illustration- Part 3
This is part 3 of the three parts of the birdie illustration. I this video, we will round up the illustration of the birdie, add some details to the birdie, add some signature elements, and create one more layer of shadows. Inclusion shadows will add an extra dimension to your illustration. In the next video, we will summarize all that has happened in this course.
07:53
